A member of Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s Central Committee and Deputy Chief of the Party’s Central Committee Office, Nguyen Hai Ninh, has sought for closer relations between Nigeria and Vitamin.
He made the call during a visit by a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV) to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
Nkem Anyata-Lafia, Special Adviser, Media & Public Affairs to the Committee Chair, Hon.Yusuf Buba Yakub, made the statement available on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mr Ninh, who is the leader of the delegation to Nigeria, described Nigeria as a friend of Vietnam with which it has long-standing cooperation and relationship that had seen the growth in trade and entrepreneurship among the both countries.
He said Nigeria’s huge population and central position in Africa and its affairs made it necessary for the leaders of his party and country to seek better trade relations and further cooperation on already signed agreements between the both countries.
Ninh, who was accompanied by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Pham Anh Tuan, used the opportunity to solicit the cooperation of the House of Representatives on the planned visit later this month of another delegation of Vietnamese leaders led by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Voung Dinh Hue, to Nigeria.
Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon.Yusuf Buba Yakub, lauded the great strides made by the people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in turning a once import- dependent economy to an export-oriented one that has made the country one of the leading nations among the list of developing countries of the world.
While promising to avail the Speaker of the House of Representatives of all the requests made by the delegation, Hon. Buba said Nigeria would be glad to cooperate with Vietnam on all areas of their mutual interests, especially, on how to turn its vast potential in agriculture from the level of subsistence that has been known for many years to full mechanisation.
He noted that “our unique shared experiences as countries of interest to the world foisted on us the need to work together.”
