The Federal Government, through its agency, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has ordered the 11 Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) in Nigeria to suspend their Sept. 1 tariff increase for 14 days.

The commission’s suspension order of the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2020 signed by its chairman, Prof James Momoh, was released on its web site on Wednesday, September 30.

The Commission’s suspension followed a joint communique issued by the Federal Government and the labour unions.

Nigerians who reacted to the development saw it as a mere lullaby to a hungry baby to go to sleep, in that when he wakes up, the hunger continues.

“What happens after the two weeks? Is it not a ploy to keep us quiet for the mean time? They should stop playing pranks and tackle this once and for all,” charged Mr. Isiaka Mustapha, who operates a business centre at KARU Site area of the FCT.
