Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has urged traditional rulers to continue to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among their subjects.
Governor Shettima made appeal yesterday while presenting First Class Staff of Office to the Emir of Shani, Alhaji Nasiru Muhammadu Mailafiya at his palace in Shani Local Government Area of the state.
His words: “On behalf of the government and People of Borno state, i congratulate you for your well deserved appointment and presentation of first class staff of office.
“Your Father, the late Emir of Shani, Alhaji Muhammadu Mailafiya has contributed in fostering peace, unity and development of education in the state, I therefore urge you to emulate. Your late father ” Shettima’ said.
The Governor said, his administration has accorded priority to the traditional institution, as custodian of our values and culture, adding that Nasir Mailafiya who is the 8th emir of Shani is a good development, as his appointment was done based on merit.
Earlier in his speech, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Lawan said the administration of Governor Kashim Shettima has contributed immensely to grassroots development and transformation through several provisions of infrastructural facilities, construction and reconstruction of palaces of Emirs of Dikwa, Shani, Biu, Bama, Askira and Gwoza among others.
He called on the newly turbaned first class emir to work for the people in his domain and ensure peaceful co-existence among his people and the State as a whole.
In his response, the Emir of Shani, Alhaji Nasiru Mailafiya said “the journey to the attainment of present status of the first class emir of Shani emirate would not have been achieved or realized without the support and understanding of the present government and purposeful leadership of Governor Shettima’s administration.
He called for peaceful coexistence among the people of his domain, the state and the entire nation while urging the politicians to play the politics according to the rules of the game, as 2019 general elections is fast approaching.
The royal father expressed his appreciation to Governor Shettima, emirs, distinguished guests and all those that witnessed the occasion.
He prayed for Journey mercies and safe trip back to their respective destination.
He pledged to continue to carry his people along, without fear or favour.
