Ikoyi Collapsed Building: Sanwo-Olu Sets Up Commission of Inquiry

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set up a six-man commission of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the Gerard Road building collapse which occurred on Monday.

Yesterday, the governor had promised to set up the Commission “to independently investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and make recommendations on how to prevent future occurrence.”

In a release signed by Mr Gbenga Omotosho, commissioner for information and strategy, the Governor said the government will “surely find out what went wrong and punish those indicted.”

As a first step, Governor Sanwo-Olu directed that the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Mr. Gbolahan Oki, an architect, be suspended from work immediately. The suspension is indefinite.

A help desk was also set up at the site for people seeking information about their relations who may have been involved in the incident.
