Two persons were killed when suspected members of Boko Haram sect invaded communities of Wamdeo and Chul in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents who stormed the two communities which share border with Sambisa Forest on Tuesday at about 6:30pm also looted foodstuff and livestock before setting ablaze some shops in Chul.
Hundreds of residents have to ran into the Bush for safety, as the armed insurgents wrecked havoc without confrontation.
According to resident of Wamdeo who fled into the Bush with his family, Mr. Yahaya Isa told our Correspondent on phone that “two persons were killed in Wamdeo, with no destruction of property”.
Isa said, immediately after they heard the sound of gunshots, he mobilized his family and ran into the bush, until this morning (Wednesday) when we returned to Wamdeo and discovered that two persons were killed.
Amongst the victims, Isa said, one was a drunker who, after coming out from a beer parlour refused to heed to instructions from his friends to run into the bush, but chose to face the insurgents, before he was shot dead.
Another victim was a security guard attached to one of the private clinics owned by a local church in Wamdeo, who also refused to flee at the time of the attacks.
Due to poor telecommunications network in Chul community, our Correspondent couldn’t get any contact with fleeing residents, but sources said, the insurgents only stormed Chul, loot foodstuff, livestock, before setting ablaze some shops and residential buildings.
Both communities, which are not far away from the Local Government Headquarters (Askira), were agrarian/herders with substantial number of Muslims and few Christians living peacefully before the insurgents struck.
