The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has reiterated plans by its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to inject a $10 billion Economic Stimulus Fund within his first 100 days in office to prioritize support to Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.
Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of PDP, disclosed this at a one-day workshop organized by the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, LAWAN, in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung held at Elomaz Hotel, Maryland, Lagos State.
The workshop was tagged, “Roles of Media in Agenda Setting for 2023 General Elections”.
Ayu, who was represented by Debo Ologunagba, the party spokesperson, said the Atiku Abubakar Covenant with Nigerians is to prioritize efforts in creating a very robust economic development agenda to revamp the ailing productive sectors, stimulate multi-sectoral productivity and best conditions of service that guarantee job security, training and capacity building; competitive remuneration as well as reliable retirement and pension scheme for workers in both the public and private sectors.
“It is against this backdrop that Atiku Abubakar has perfected plans to inject a $10 billion Economic Stimulus Fund within his first 100 days in office to prioritize support to Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.
“This will also open the space for more jobs in the formal and informal private sectors and create more funding space for better conditions and welfare packages for workers in the public sector.
“Moreover, consistent with the PDP’s value for labour, our party has perfected policies for legislation that will ensure best practices of freedom of association in the workplace as well as guaranteed Collective Bargaining on all issues, particularly those related to rights of workers and Conditions of Service. I assure you that under a PDP administration, workers’ welfare will be a priority”, Ayu said.
Ayu urged the media, as a critical stakeholder to join forces with Nigerians in exposing the ills of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as remaining courageous in standing with the people to ensure a successful electoral process that will guarantee a government that will be beneficial to the Nigerian people, saying the government is the PDP government.
He lamented how the opposition party rode to power with lies and propaganda and fake promises.
Ayu said, “sadly, the APC deceived Nigerians and rode to power using lies, propaganda, and fake promises. It is heartrending that within the space of seven and half years, the APC has reversed all the gains achieved by the PDP.
“Within this period, the APC viciously divided our once united people, opened our nation up to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and APC treasury looters; ruined our economy and made our country the poverty capital of the world with over USD40bn foreign debt, over 33 percent unemployment rate with millions of businesses closed and over 80 million Nigerians no longer able to afford their daily meals and other necessities of life.”
