Prospective candidates of UTME in Kebbi State no longer have to travel to neighboring states for the examination.
This is because the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN has facilitated the re-opening of and having additional
Computer-Based Test (CBT) of the Joint Admission and Matriculation
Board (JAMB) Centres in Kebbi State.
The development is said to be part of the Minister’s continued determination of deliberate efforts to boost the educational pursuit among youths as
well as enhance quality manpower development geared towards nation
building.
The re-opening of and having additional CBT Centres in the State was
as a result of the letter addressed to the JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, dated 31st December, 2019, which was personally signed by Malami, SAN where he requested for “additional CBT Centres in Kebbi State for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)”.
“During my recent visits to Kebbi State, I received complaints from many prominent persons regarding the inadequacy of CBT Centres in the
State to cater for the needs of prospective candidates for the 2020
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, and the need for urgent
intervention in that regards,” the letter reads in part.
“I have been reliably informed that the whole of Kebbi State (with a
population of over 3 million) has only two (2) approved Centers, which
to my mind are grossly insufficient considering the number of prospective candidates across the State,” Malami wrote.
While drawing the attention of the JAMB Registrar on the need for
urgent intervention, Malami said approval of more centres for the
State will cushion the harsh effects and difficulties currently
associated with the conduct of UTME in the State.
Some CBT Centres hitherto closed down but currently restored on the
account of the intervention of the Minister included BIT Computers,
Birnin-Kebbi, Command Secondary School, Jega, Kebbi State University
of Science, Aliero, ZEDA CBT Centre, Zuru and KEBNA, CBT Centre in
Zuru.
Speaking on the development, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna Maigishiri who
manned one of the re-opened CBT centres; BIT Computers, Birnini-Kebbi
thanked the Minister for his intervention noting that prospective UTME candidates in Kebbi State may now have the right to choose an examination town where they could write the examination at any one of the centres in the state.
The Minister is expected on 29th of February, 2020 to be in Birnin-Kebbi, the headquarters of Kebbi State for commissioning of new JAMB Office and CBT Center in the state.
