…17 out of 333 a far cry; where are the remaining 316? Queried distraught mothers
Seventeen ((17) out of 333 students of Government Secondary School, Kankara, kidnapped Friday night, December 11, have been found in a Zamfara forest, said Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katasina State. This is even as the mothers of the students who staged a massive protest against their children’s disappearance on Sunday, are insisting that 17 out 333 students was a far cry, asking: Where are the remaining 316?
Disclosing this in an interview with a German radio, Deutsche Welle, Monday evening, the governor said, “As at today (Monday), information available to me shows that 17 of the missing children have been found. Fifteen(15) of them were found around Dinya in Danmusa LGA, according to the information reaching me from the DPO. One other was found through them and the last, the father called that his son has returned home.
“All these missing children found have been reunited with their families since we have shut down schools. Please note that majority of the students were in the forest in Zamfara, even as efforts are on for their rescue,” he claimed.
Recall that over 333 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, a surburb of Katsina, were, on Friday, December 11, abducted by daredevil gunmen who later claimed to be members of Boko Haram.
This incident had led to a massive protest rocking the President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina, two days ago, by villagers, especially mothers of the kidnapped children, who poured all manners of invectives on government and security authorities, with Governor Masari continuously pleading with them to be patient and show restraint and understanding, assuring them that the government would do every necessary thing to ensure the release of all the abducted students.
According to him, the military, police and the Department of State Security had swung into action and were on the trail of the bandits.
“The government is very firm in its resolve to be ruthless in any engagement with the bandits,” he said./ SHARE THIS
