Zulum Votes In Mafa Despite Boko Haram Attack On Eve Of Election

The governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Borno state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum voted on Saturday at about 12:07pm at Ajari (1) polling unit in Mafa ward of Mafa local government area of Borno state.


Mafa which is about 45 kilometers  from Maiduguri, was attacked Friday evening by suspected Boko Haram terrorists , but were repelled by the Nigerian Military, in collaboration with other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task force (CJTF).

A resident of Mafa, Mohammed Modu, said the terrorists attacked the area around 6pm while worshipers were performing ablution, but added that no casualty was recorded in the attack.

He said it was the terrorists that suffered loss as the Military successfully repelled them with some of their vehicles set ablaze.

Speaking to Journalists after casting his vote, the APC governorship candidate, Professor Zulum expressed confidence in the process.

He said though turnout of voters was low in the morning time, people were sent out to mobilize voters.

Also speaking , governor Kashim Shettima who followed Professor Zulum to Mafa appreciated the people for coming out to vote despite Boko Haram attack in the community Friday evening.

He pledged his loyalty to professor Zulum should the later be declared winner of the election, saying that his relationship with Zulum if given the ticket will depend on his loyalty and respect for the office.

“ If I continues to see Zulum after the election as my subordinate , my relationship with him bounds to hit the rock,” Shettima declared.

The governor thanked the people of Mafa for turning out enmass to excercise their franchise despite the Boko Haram attack , describing the action as show of resilience to the terrorists’s threat.
