Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has on Tuesday commissioned the newly rehabilitated Vocational Training Centre at Mafoni ward of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The edifice which is aimed at addressing youth restiveness were rehabilited by an International Non Governmental Organizations (iNGOs), German International Cooperation (GIZ) and European Union (EU) in collaboration with the state government.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Hon Umar Usman Kadafur stressed that the major issue of concern relate to youth unemployment, is lack of appropriate Skills Acquisition Centers that will empower jobless youths.
it is against this backdrop that the present government intend to establish Technical and Vocational Training Centers in each of the three Senatorial Zones across the state.
The establishment of these Vocational Centres according to him is to train and empower the growing number of unemployed youths in the State.
His words: ” Today marked another historic day in our questions to empower our unemployed youths. The major issue of concern relate to youth unemployment, is lack of appropriate Skills Acquisition Centers.
“It is against this backdrop that the present government intend to establish Technical and Vocational Training Centers in each of the three Senatorial Zones across the state.
“The establishment of these Vocational Centres is to train and empower the growing number of unemployed youths in the State.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank German International Cooperation (GIZ) and European Union (EU) for rehabilitating the Vocational Training Centre, and as we collectively strive to reposition Borno in this post-insurgency period and history, the names of these iNGOs and other humanitarian partners would be written in Gold.
“In as much as we the Government and people of Burning state expressed gratitude for all the supports from our development partners, I would like to appeal for an extension of this support programme to other communities, as we now migrate from humanitarian concern to that of economic recovery and stabilization and to fastrack sustainable development.” He said.
