According to them, Mrs . Obiano’s public show of shame at the event was not the first or the second display of such confusion in the gathering of dignitaries, thus making her the most eminently qualified public figure with cognate experience to clinch the coveted position.

Experience No 1: On Sunday, the 16th of November, 2014, after the dedication of the child of the Anglican Bishop of Awka, His Lordship, Most Rev.( Dr.) Ibezim at the Cathedral of St. Faith, Awka,  wife of the state Deputy Governor complained to the wife of Dr. Alex Ekwueme, being a mother of all, of how Ebele Obiano does not carry her along in whatever she does.

Desirous of brokering peace, Ekwueme’s wife, Beatrice, got audience with Mrs. Obiano where she advised her on the need to carry everybody along, especially the wife of the Deputy Governor.

Immediately, Mrs Obiano flayed up and claimed that the constitution recognizes her and not the wife of the Deputy. And immediately her Deputy murmured back, Mrs. Obiano slapped her.

It took the intervention of security men to prevent the duo from physical combat.

In the quarrel, the wife of the Deputy Governor told her that she cannot kill her as she killed her maid, nor slap her as she usually slaps drivers.

As the use gutter language between the two continued, Sir Victor Umeh, an APGA chieftain, took the deputy governor, who was there away, as he felt completely dejected.

Experience No 2:  August 16, 2014 was the turn of Hon Uche Ekwunife, then House Member representing Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency of Anambra State – in  far away foreign country of Poland.

Both women were on the entourage of the then First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

The story goes thus:

“If not for the intervention of the First Lady, Dr. Patience Goodluck, the member representing Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Hon Uche Ekwunife would have been attacked by the wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Ebele Obiano, in far away Poland, yesterday night.

Both women were on the entourage of the First Lady to Poland. Trouble started when on arrival with the First Lady, who was accompanied by Uche Ekwunife, Bola Shagaya and others, while Ebele Obiano, who was among those at the airport to receive the First Lady, greeted every other person, except Uche Ekwunife.

Later in the day, when Ebele Obiano came to see the First Lady, according to source with the First Lady, she again greeted everybody except Uche Ekwunife. Those who had noticed the trend asked her why the childishness, pointing at Uche, and she said, “I do not greet a prostitute,” to the astonishment of all those around.

Uche Ekwunife did not talk, according to our source, until Ebele Obiano told her that she will deal with her and make sure she crumbles all her businesses in Awka.

Enraged, Uche said, “I would not bandy words with you”, adding:  “That you killed your husband’s first wife for him to marry you does not mean you can deal with other women [Ebele Obiano used to be the secretary to Obiano until he lost the wife and married her]; that you are dealing with your alcoholic husband does not mean you can deal with me,” Ekwunife said to Ebele Obiano.

Confused, Ebele Obiano said: “my husband drinks champagne not alcohol,” providing comic relief that set everybody laughing.

About to go physical, the First Lady now intervened joined by other women. They lambasted Wille’s wife for lack of manners and morals.

“Instead of you to go to Margaret Obi to teach you how to be a First Lady, I heard you no longer talk to her.  This your behaviour today has confirmed all that is said about you and your husband. Please if this is how you behave, never join me on any trip again, both within and outside the country,” the visibly enraged First Lady said.”

Experience No 3: Mrs. Obiano’s verbal/physical attack led me to give her valedictory dirty slap, as told by Mrs Bianca Ojukwu

March 17, 2022/ As the inaugural ceremonies for Prof Charles Soludo and his deputy began and all guests were seated, the former First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs Ebele Obiano, was noticeably absent. She then arrived some one-and-a-half hours later while the ceremony was on. I didn’t pay any particular attention to her arrival.

Surprisingly, she then walked towards me and I thought she was coming to greet me. Instead, when she got to where I was seated, she verbally attacked me with her voice raised, taunting me and asking me what I was there to do and using unprintable vile language.

She asked if I had come to celebrate their last day in office.  But I ignored her completely. Then, she kept aggressively putting her hands on my shoulders and shouting. While I ignored her verbal onslaught, as advised by those sitting around me, I requested twice that she refrained from touching me with her hands. She proceeded to do so yet again, and went further to grab at my head-tie, which she attempted unsuccessfully. This very act is considered a sacrilege to a titled matriarch such as my self in Igbo culture. It was at this point that I stood up to defend myself and gave her a dirty slap to stop her from attacking me. As she made towards me, I then pulled away her wig. She held on to her wig with her two hands  and tried to take the wig away from me. The former APGA chairman,  Umeh, told her to leave me and told engaged APGA members that had gathered at the spot to lead her away , which they did and took her to the seat next to her husband, Chief Willie Obiano, who sat throughout the entire episode completely speechless. What struck me through the whole episode was the fact that she was clearly intoxicated. I was stunned by the stench of whisky in her breath at such an early hour of the day. How could a first lady be so drunk and proceeded to turn up in that state at an Inauguration ceremony that began at 9am? It is unfortunate that she threw all caution to the wind and imported this kind of melodrama to a state ceremony. This was highly embarrassing to the Governor who left the venue almost immediately, taking her along with him. Luckily, this did not disrupt the proceedings and I stayed back to witness the ceremony to the end after which we were treated to a sumptuous reception at the Government House.

With these reported public show of ‘Eke market display’ by Ebele Obiano, Anambrarians are calling on the incumbent Gov Chukwuma Soludo not to look far if he’s desirous of making an appointment for Special Assistant-Public Altercation and Confusion…afterall, his neighbouring Imo State under former Gov Rochas Okorocha made do with a novel Ministry of Enjoyment, with a commissioner in charge of it. /SHARE THIS
