Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has explained why military operatives of the Nigerian Army were invited to quell the crisis cdrrently rocking Orlu community in the state.
At a press briefing yesterday by Cyprian Akaolisa, attorney general and commissioner for justice, the governor said he invited soldiers to Imo state to restore normalcy and set the affected community on the path of peace again.
Governor Uzodinma said the government would no longer tolerate the activities of the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, which had been proscribed.
He said the IPOB was responsible for the deaths of many innocent citizens and security operatives and their action is posing a threat to the peace of Orlu and Imo state.
Said Akaolisa: “The attacks on police stations and killing of policemen during #Endsars were carried out by IPOB and not protesting youths for the sole purpose of hijacking and stealing weapons.
“They are now using those arms to destroy Orlu. They killed 10 policemen, a prominent Orlu son, Ignatius Obiezu and one Emmanuel Okeke (Soludo) collected their Hilux vehicles.”
Last Thursday, soldiers had stormed Orlu with military choppers flying in what created a scene of fear and pandemonium among residents of the community.
