Two docked over assault on EKO Disco staff

Two women have appeared before a magistrate court in Agbara over assault on one Ann Ezuma, a staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC). The assault occurred in the Medina Estate Area of Agbara, Ogun state while Ezuma was discharging her lawful duty.

The two, Adetayo Adefila and Faith Ogunmade aged 42 and 33 respectively were charged with a three-count charge of felony, unlawful assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by Head, Media and Communications, EKEDC, Sulaiman Aledeh who expressed the company’s extreme displeasure over cases like an assault on staff performing their assigned duties. Aledeh reiterated the company’s zero-tolerance over such heinous acts.

Adefila and Ogunmade who pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge before Magistrate Ilo who granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must present evidence of tax payment for at least one year. The accused persons were, however, remanded in the Ilaro facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) pending the perfection of their bail.

The matter was adjourned till 4th March 2020 for further trial.

It was said that the defendants beat the EKEDC staff and threw her in a pile of trailer tyres causing her to sustain several injuries on her body.

Aledeh advised the public against assaulting EKEDC staff as the company will go the full length of the law to seek justice against anyone who does so. He also assured all staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company of their safety while performing their lawful duties as measures are in place to curb these acts.
