Ten members of a Fulani camp in Gwanara area of Baruten Local Government have died after taking a herbal concoction to cure leg infection.
The tragic incident which happened at the Fulani camp known as Biogberu, according to a police statement, happened on 18 June 2021 but was reported to the police on June 28.
The Police said one Ibrahim Bonnie; a 22 years old Fulani man had informed the police that one Okosi Musa, a 35 year old and Worugura Junlin came to their camp to meet his mother by name Pennila Bonni aged 40 years who was suffering from a foot infection.
According to the police statement, Ibrahim came with a local herbal mixture purported to be the cure for his mother’s foot infection which she was commanded to take.
Not only that, the two traditional healers also instructed that all members of the family must take the concoction to prevent the ailment from spreading and infecting the remaining members of their family.
After taking the local herbal mixture however, Bonnie said the family began to die one after the other and that at the last count, ten of them had given up the ghosts including the mother who had the infected leg in the first instance.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer in the Kwara State Command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, said intensive investigation into the incident had commenced at the instance of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bagega.
Okasanmi added that two suspects were helping the Police in Ilorin to unravel the circumstances leading to the dispense of the lethal concoction.
The Commissioner of Police was said to have advised sick members of the public to seek proper medical solutions from recognized health institutions which were found across the State to avoid the kind of ugly incident that befell the Fulani Camp.
