Southern Borno: Gov. Shettima presents 1st class staff to three Emirs


Governor Kashim Shettima is on tour of southern part of Borno State where he presented first class staff of office to the Emir in Uba on today after presenting similar staff to the Emir in Shani on Tuesday while he is expected to present same to the Emir in Gwoza on Saturday. The three Emirs were elevated from second class by Governor Kashim Shettima in reward for promotion of peace and unity amongst their people.

Governor Shettima left ‎Maiduguri arrived Shani on Tuesday morning, driving through Bayo and Kwaya-Kusar local government areas.


At the palace in Shani, the Governor presented the staff to the E‎mir, Alhaji Muhammad Nasiru Mailafiya who assumed office in January 2014 as second class Emir. He succeeded his late father. The event was attended by sons and daughters of Shani Emirate alongside National and State Assembly members representing Shani.

The Governor who spent the night in Shani, held series of consultative and strategy meetings with different stake-holders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ‎for the purpose of addressing areas of friction to consolidate on the party’s hold. Before departing Shani on Wednesday, Shettima inspected ongoing construction works at the General Hospital and Mega ‎primary School undertaken by the state government. He also inspected works at another General Hospital in Bargu outside Shani.

The Governor drove to Uba in Askira-Uba local government where he spent the night. He also used the night to meet with stakeholders over matters concerning the APC ahead of the election.

On Thursday morning, the Governor presented another first class staff of office to the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza II who assumed office in 2011 as second class Emir, to succeed his late father. The event which held at the Emir’s place in Uba town was well attended by prominent sons and daughters ‎of the emirate with series of cultural activities including durbar held to commemorate the occasion.

Governor Shettima is expected to tour projects and meet with people in Lass and Askira, the headquarters of Askira-Uba local government area before leaving the local government area for other parts of southern Borno.
