The apology was contained in a message delivered on Monday to President Muhammadu Buhari by South African special envoy, Jeff Radebe, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mr Radebe who was accompanied by South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby J. Moroe, arrived at the State House at about 2.15p.m.

Also present at the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Kabiru Bala.

During the meeting, the South African representative noted that the issue of compensation to Nigerian victims would feature during President Buhari’s visit to South Africa in October.

A statement released by South African government spokesman, Khusela Diko, on Sunday had hinted that President Ramaphosa dispatched special envoys to Nigeria and six other African countries (Niger, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia) to deliver a message of reassurance in light of the recent attacks on foreign nationals.
