Police in their hundreds have teargassed, and dispersed members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) from holding their Zonal Campaign rally due to be held in Gumel, Jigawa State.
Investigations conducted by our correspondent has revealed that the situation has plunged the ancient town into serious confusion.
Asked what prompted the police taking such a panic actions on their members, the PDP spokesman,Babandi Ibrahim Gumel wondered why the molestation.
“All what I know,two weeks before the commencement of our gathering, we have secured police permission, and granted, only to be teargassed on arrival to Gumel unprepared and noticed”
Contacted, the Jigawa state Police spokesman, DSP Abdul Jinjiri said “we are yet to receive signal on Gumel episode, assured to brief the press fully after getting certified information.”
The proposed PDP Jigawa North West Zone rally was expected to be attended by over four thousand party faithfully to be drawn from different nocks and crannies of Jigawa state and beyond.
Others expected are the party faithfuls from the twelve local government areas that made up the zone namely Gumel, Gagarawa, SULE Tankarkar, Kazaure, Yankwashi, Roni, Gwiwa, Maigatari.
