Rice smugglers have invited bandits from Niger Republic to ‘clear the borders’ –Gov Masari

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina has put the blame on the new wave of insecurity in the state at the door steps of rice smugglers. He said they have invited bandits from Zamfara State and Niger Republic to clear the closed borders so that they can continue with their nefarious activities.

The governor in a series of tweets also dismissed information making the rounds that the peace deal entered by the government with armed bandits in some local government areas had collapsed.

According to him, “The Peace process we started has not collapsed, despite the current incidences being recorded in some LGAs. We have discovered that what we are witnessing, especially in Jibia, is the handwork of rice smugglers.

“They invited bandits from Zamfara and Niger Republic to clear the borders for them to continue with their nefarious activities. We have credible information that we will certainly utilize to get to the root of all this. All those responsible will be dealt with severely.

“Most of the information going round trying to discredit what we have achieved through the peace process are mischievous. We know we are not perfect, but that doesn’t make all the fabrications to be true. We welcome objective criticisms because they make us restrategize and strong”, he said.
