Residents of Ibi community,Taraba State cry out over gully erosion



Residents of Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba state have cried out for help over persistent gully erosion which swept away Yalwan Shendam-Ibi-Wukari Federal road alongside the collapse of the three temporary bridges which cut-off communication links amongst the council and neighbouring states.


To that effect, an urgent Save Our Souls Message was drafted and dispatched by the community to the federal government for prompt actions.

In the statement, a copy which was made available to the state online medium, it quoted the spokesman, Mal Adamu Zakari as saying” unless efforts are made to stem the tide, the entire Ibi community populace would be nonexistence in few years to come.

The message written and signed by the community leader, Mal.Adamu Ibi viewed with concern on the deplorable condition of the existing federal road linking the area with neibouring Bauchi, Plateau, and Adamawa states.

It added “Having appreciative with the federal government resolve to construct a bridge on river Benue via Ibi local government area, we do hope our existing Yelwan-Shendam- Wukari- Jos via Bauchi federal highway will be fully reactivated to boost communication links”

It however gathered that the continued negligence of this road and the collapse of the bridges for years prompted the attention of community participation to embark on communal initiatives in resuscitating the bridges.

It added the projects estimated at three and half million naira was single handedly executed through communal efforts and supervised by Adamu Zakari just to assist commuters get access in utilising the federal highway.

In a chat Zakari said ” my conviction towards effecting urgent repairs on these broken down bridges was informed upon my concern on my people being a philanthropist who believed in rendering humanitarian gesture”

He contended that instead of getting support of both Ibi local government and Taraba state, “I was humiliated, harass and faced with so many obstacles in derailing my efforts, but with prayer and people’s courage I was able to break through in fixing these gigantic projects single handedly, he declare.

” I was faced with so many challenges from both state and my council officials on why should I erect community based project without government approval, having known that my approval towards this project was duly signed by constituted authorities, since Taraba state government failed to come to the rescue of the people, frustrating my efforts not to allow to attend to the road, but I was motivated by my community in finishing the work successfully.”

He further stated that before the actualization of this viable project, activities of armed banditry was so pronounced on the collapsed bridge’s due to poor status of the neglected road and bridge’s.
