The reported arrest of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on Monday afternoon, shortly after resuming from annual leave, has been described as a figment of the reporter’s imagination and should therefore be regarded as fake news, Public Relations Officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dr Peter Afunanya, has clarified.

Revealing this in a brief statement shortly after the news hit the airwaves, Monday afternoon, Afunanya, described the report of his men’s invasion of the CBN as misleading.

The State Online gathered that the said misleading report might not be unconnected with a swarm of DSS operatives (about five of them) around Emefiele on arrival, when under normal circumstances, only two protect him.

Afunanya’s statement followed closely to that of the CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Osita Nwanisiobi, informing that his principal, Gov Emefiele, has resumed duty that same day, Monday, January 16, after his annual vacation abroad.

Nwanisiobi said: “Mr. Emefiele, who proceeded on leave in December 2022, resumed work today (Monday, January 16, 2023).

“The Governor resumed with renewed vigour to perform his duty ahead of the first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of the year scheduled for January 23 to 24, 2023.”

He further said: “Mr. Emefiele remains committed to performing the task before him in line with his oath of office and the policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Nwanisiobi pleaded with Nigerians to “continue to support the policies of the Bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general”./SHARE THIS
