Professor James Nwoye Adichie, Chimamanda’s father, dies

James Nwoye Adichie, first Nigerian Professor of Statistics and father of renowned novelist, Chimamanda is dead.
The academic who celebrated his 88th birthday on March 1 reportedly died last night.
The Emeritus Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) hailed from Abba, Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.
Adichie was a member of International Statistical Institute (ISI) since 1978 and member, Governing Council of (ISI) 1985-1987.
He became a Professor of Statistics in 1976 and had lived in Nsukka since he retired.
An Awka-based media consultant, Uzor Maxim Uzoatu, wrote on the demise of this illustrious son of Anambra State: “It’s so hard to take that Chimamanda’s beloved father, Professor James Nwoye Adichie, Nigeria’s first professor of statistics, has joined the ancestors at 88.”
