The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services has described as shocking the death of Professor Godswill Obioma, Registrar of the National Examinations Council, NECO.
This was contained in a condolence message signed by the Chairman and his Deputy, Professor Julius Ihonvbere and Hon. Usman Zanna.
The Committee said while they await a convergence of views between the family and NECO on the circumstances and cause of his death, the lawmakers mourned the “departure of an astute academic, top rate researcher, creative administrator and technocrat par excellence.”
The statement reads: “His contributions to the education sector in Nigeria at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), advisor to three different ministers among others, and until his death, NECO will remain important hallmarks in Nigeria’s growth and development process.
“We pray that God grants the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Our condolences to the Chairman, Council members and entire staff of NECO on the sad loss.
“May the soul of Professor Godswill Obioma rest in perfect peace.”
