The Borno State Police Command has arrested 68 suspects for alleged
kidnapping, terrorism and other criminal activities across the state this month.
The arrests, according to the command, were made in four councils of Askira/Uba, Shani, Bayo and Maiduguri.
Parading the suspects on Friday in Maiduguri, the Police Commissioner, Mohammed Aliyu, disclosed that the suspects were arrested for terrorist activities, kidnapping, armed robbery, culpable homicide and theft of N5million in Maiduguri.
He said some of the suspects were allegedly involved in criminal
conspiracy, theft and in possession of stolen properties during the
period under review.
On suspects’ possession of fire arms, Aliyu said: “Yohanna Ijai and
two other suspects at large, were in procession of two fabricated
AK-47 rifles.
“On June 3, 2019, at about 11.30pm, Ijai a member of vigilante group attached to Dille village in Askira/Uba council was on his way to Taban village with two locally made AK-47 rifles with eight live cartridges packed inside a sack on Bajaj motorcycle to Dille.
“In the process of repairing the motorcycle, Ijai was intercepted by some policemen on duty. After conducting a search on him they found the fire arms were hidden.”
He further disclosed that Ali Ibrahim, a notorious member of Boko
Haram, who participated in several attacks on security locations in
Cameroon and Nigeria, is among the arrested suspects.
He said Ibrahim was arrested by the police at Dikwa Low Cost Housing Estates, Maiduguri. According to the police boss, the suspect confessed to have followed his members on many attacks on security locations and carted away their weapons. “Ibrahim claimed to have escaped from one of their hideout camps in Cameroon; after denouncing membership of the sect,” he said.
