From today, September 2, 2020, the price of petrol at filling stations will be N151.56 per litre, the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has said.
The information is contained in a memo: PPMC/IB/LS/020 signed and released by one D.O. Abalaka, on Wednesday, advising all stakeholders, including depot owners to take note.
It emphasized that the new price regime applies only in September, starting from today, September 2, 2020. This is coming just about six weeks after it had earlier increased the price to N141 per litre, and instead of coming down as Nigerians expected, it was instead going up.
The hike is coming on the heels of the astronomic increase in price of electricity by the Electricity Distribution Companies around the country by 100% per kW/h, making Nigerians to be groaning on all fronts.
A motorist, Dr Taiwo Odunlana, who spoke to The State Online, rhetorically asked, “Hope this government is not trying to constitute itself into another round of pandemic to Nigerians, even as we are still braving the odds of CORONA virus? There is God o.”
