Nigeria First Organisation (NFO), a coalition of Nigerian Youths across the country on Tuesday, stormed the National Assembly, Abuja, to show their support for President Muhamnadu Buhari’s decision to suspend Justice Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The coalition, which converged at the entrance of the National Assembly for their peaceful solidarity protest, said it was disheartening that the issue was being politicised by some people.
The protesters carried placards with different inscriptions like: ”Say No to Corruption in the Judiciary,” ”Onnoghen Must Go Now,” ”The Integrity of the Judiciary will never be Compromised,” among others, to press home their demands.
The Chairman of NFO, Mr Zailani Musa, said the group came from Kaduna State to show its concerns on the issue of the forthcoming general elections vis-à-vis the controversy over Onneghen’s suspension.
”Since there is an element of corruption on Onnoghen’s case, let justice prevail.
”We all know the situation the youth in Nigeria are presently; most of them are jobless, most of them are angry, most of them are hungry.
”The Judiciary, having this allegation of corruption against its leadership, we feel things should be done the right way.
”So, we are here to show to the whole world that we are in support of Mr President’s decision on the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the CJN,”he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman, Aminu Jasawa, said the group came to the National Assembly to ask the National Assembly to back President Buhari in his anti-corruption war.
He said the fight against corruption should not be politicised.
”We are here because there seems to be a gap between the National Assembly and the Presidency. They seem to create a kind of political interest on issues of national interest.
”So, if really the National Assembly is concerned about Nigerians and our nation, why wont they support Mr President in removing any obstacle that will hamper the development of Nigeria?
”People tend to politicise the issue, people tend to show their interest before our nation.
”So, we are here to send a message to those people to make them understand that we have a nation to nurture, and thanks be to God that has blessed us with Mr President.
”His fight against corruption has meant a lot to us and he has achieved a great feat.
“If we therefore fail to create sanity in the judicial system, how do we expect the masses to be encouraged in taking their cases to the courts as the last hope for the masses.
”Therefore, the judiciary must be sanitised,”he stated.
