Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen was absent from Tuesday’s sitting at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Onnoghen’s lead counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), submitted a medical report confirming Onnoghen’s health problems.
Awomolo said Onnoghen needed to treat a toothache immediately.
Prosecuting counsel, Mr. Aliyu Umar (SAN), acknowledged that he had been given a photocopy of the medical report.
He said that he would have expressed “an observation” about the medical report but for the comment of the doctor who signed it, stating that Justice Onnoghen had a high blood pressure of 410/121.
It was stated in a letter by the medical doctor that Onnoghen needed a bed rest to recover.
The tribunal, led by its chairman, Danladi Umar, ruled on Monday that hearing in the case would hold daily.
It had also deferred ruling twice on applications filed by Onnoghen to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the charges against him till when final judgment would be delivered in the case.
Tribunal has been adjourned till March 18th over Onnoghen’s need to have a bed rest for 3 days.
