Oloyede proffers solutions to exam malpractice…JAMB trains staff on business communication and writing skills

Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has charged all stakeholders in the education industry to join hands in the fight against examination malpractices. He stated this at the Second Faculty of Arts Lecture of the Ekiti State University, AdoEkiti, where he delivered a paper themed “Faculties, Examination Malpractice and National Rebirth.”

According to the latest edition of JAMBulletin, Oloyede in his presentation, the Registrar X-rayed the menace of examination malpractice and suggested the professionalization of examination management, among others, as a potent way of curbing the malfeasance.

In another development, no fewer than fifty members of staff of the Board have undergone a training course on business communication and writing skills. The training is part of the Board’s determination to equip staff with relevant knowledge and skills needed in the day-today running of the Board, says JAMBulletin.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Registrar who was represented by the Director, Corporate Support Services (CSS), Mr. Abdulkadir Ibrahim Maska, underscored the importance of training for staff development. He stated that learning remains a veritable instrument of change and a catalyst for social, physical, psychological and emotional development of mankind.

Mr. Maska further stated that the training, which centred on language and skills development, would not only enhance writing skills but the ability to communicate fluently. Earlier, the Principal Consultant, Language and Skills Development Consulting (LSDC), Ms. Stella Nnodi, who anchored the training, informed the participants that the course would help them improve their business writing and guide them in developing more organized writing skills. Ms. Nnodi, a highly-experienced and talented trainer-consultant, said success in today’s world of work depends on one’s ability to communicate fluently and efficiently.

On the purpose of the training, Ms. Nnodi said, “The training provides practice in occupational writing in terms of both correspondence and reports, with particular emphasis on in-bound and outbound letters, memos and e-mails. We’ll review common errors in grammar and spelling, as well as offer tips and resources for continued improvement as well as also x-ray local and international standard communication ethics and etiquette.”
