Few hours after declaring his presidential ambition in the 2023 general election, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a fraud charge of N2.9 billion against the embattled former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

The EFCC, in a 17-count charge filed on Monday at a Federal High Court, Abuja, charged Okorocha alongside Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Ltd, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Ltd, Consolidated Projects Consulting Ltd, Pramif International Ltd and Legend World Concepts Ltd. They were alleged to have conspired to steal the N2.9 billion public funds without regards to the Economic and Financial Crimes Act provisions that prohibit such.

This is not the first time Okorocha is being messed by the EFCC for financial fraud. In April 2019, he was made to dance a similar rhythm, but this time around, the anti-graft commission tried to put it to him that he is not qualified a bit to stand for election into the nation’s highest office…on account of his alleged light fingers.

Then again, in August 2019, the Commission grilled the senator after tracing some properties to him, including residential estates, schools, and shopping malls.

The sealed property and investments traced to Okorocha in July 2019 include: Rochas Foundation College, Owerri, East High Primary and Secondary school, Owerri which belonged to Okorocha’s first daughter, Uloma Nwosu, and All-in-One Supermarket, Owerri, Imo State.

Also, few days to the last general elections, the EFCC had placed Okorocha under investigation for allegedly withdrawing over N1bn from the state government coffers to aid the campaign activities of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, during the governorship polls in Imo State.

Additionally, the EFCC arrested the state Accountant-General, Uzoho Casmir, for allegedly assisting Okorocha to withdraw the funds./SHARE THIS
