Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-political organisation, has described the exclusion of the zone from the recent promotion of 37 officers of the Nigeria Police Force as the highest degree of provocation and marginalization.
The group lamented that the southeast got only one from the promotion of 37 police officers to their next ranks. Ohanaeze disclosed this in a statement signed by the special adviser on media to the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emeka Attamah yesterday.
Of the newly promoted officers, the north west got 12, north east eight, south west, seven, south-south, five; north central, four while the south east got only one.
The statement read: “In the recent promotion exercise carried out by the Nigeria Police Force, 37 officers were promoted to the rank of commissioner of police.
“Ohanaeze notes that while this habit of exclusion and denial has been the stock in trade of successive governments over the years, the preponderance of the marginalization in the present dispensation is unimaginable.”
