Obaseki Wins Edo Governorship Election with 307,955 votes

Incumbent Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has outstandingly won the state’s governorship election held yesterday with 307,955 votes, a clear margin of 84,336 votes ahead of his closest rival, All Progressives Congress (APC) canadidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a final result just announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC), has revealed.

According to INEC, the final results for both leading parties show that Obaseki’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 307,955 while Ize-Iyamu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 223,619.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State Election was also defeated by the main opponent and the incumbent Governor Godwin-Austen Obaseki in his local government of Orhiomwon.

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that Ize-Iyamu of the APC polled 10,458 votes while Obaseki, who is the candidate of the PDP got 13,445 votes in Orhiomwon. Ize-Iyamu hails from Iguododo in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

Earlier, the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Edo governorship election, Philip Shaibu, had lost the election in his local government, Etsako West, to the APC, with events later ticking up in favour of his party, PDP.
