In a coordinated effort towards ending the menace of Boko Haram insurgents and bandits, the new service chiefs stormed Borno State.
The visit today, January 31, is the first movement of the new service chiefs to Borno which is the theatre of war against Boko Haram since their appointment. They were led by the chief of defence staff, General Lucky Irabor, in what is believed will redefine the fight against the insurgents.
The service chiefs were received by Major General Farouq Yahaya, theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Abdul Khalifa, the general officer commanding, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and other principal staff officers of the Nigerian military.
Over a decade, Nigeria has been battling with the atrocities of dare-devil Boko Haram terrorists who have killed and displaced thousands not only in Nigeria but also in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon.
The group, which was founded in 2002 by Mohammed Yusuf, has proven to be a thorn in the flesh of peace of the northwest and northeast regions of Nigeria. Since becoming a full-blown terrorist organisation, Boko Haram has contributed to regional food crises and famines, destroyed villages, markets and killed the vulnerable using suicide bombing tactics on large gatherings like mosques and churches.
