Chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Barrister ( Ustaz) Zikrullah Olakunle Hassan has urged parents to raise their children responsibly.
He gave the advise in Lagos on Sunday as chairman of the 2020 edition of the annual seminar of the Lagos District of The Criterion ( an association of Muslim women in business and the professions) with the theme ‘Muslim Child In A Dynamic World.’
The NAHCON chairman in particular urged those who are yet to get married to choose spouses that would mirror the children they intend to have.
He said Muslims should pick as spouses, those who have the right Islamic values.
Ustaz Hassan said the major challenge of Muslim parents in the past was ensuring that their children do not grow up to be wayward. He noted that while that challenge remained constant till today, it is now compounded with the problem of terrorism.
He noted that many children have left the comfort of their parents homes to join ISIS and other terrorist groups as a result of strange and competing ideologies, much to the grief of the parents.
Saying that this challenge was not there in the past, he urged parents to be close to children in order to guide them properly.
Quoting from the Holy Qu’ran, he said children could be blessings or sources of grieve and said the essence of the lecture organized by The Criterion was to ensure how to raise those who would be blessings.
