The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital, on Wednesday.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who confirmed the development, said the decision was reached after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development”.

Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials in what political analysts are already describing as a strategic realignment with significant implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.

All elected members of the state and National Assembly have also defected to the APC.

Also, former Delta State Governor and 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has dumped the party.

The running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar informed his constituents of the development in a video seen on Wednesday.

However, Okowa did not reveal the party he would be joining.

There are speculations he would be heading to the All Progressives Congress.

This came just about the time the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, announced his defection to the APC.

In the video, Okowa, who spoke largely in his native language, said: “Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction.

“We will take the best direction, the best path for our people.”

In Osun State, Oluwole Oke, a six-term lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has resigned from the PDP, saying he decided to leave the party after consulting with his political associates, friends, and family members.

His resignation letter was dated April 16, 2025 and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 7, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

However, the lawmaker did not disclose his next political move, even as he urged his loyalists and supporters to leave the PDP and await his next direction.
