Abdulrasheed Maina, ex-Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, few minutes ago, collapsed in court, during his trial before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Maina is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 12-count charge of money laundering, corruption and operation of illicit bank accounts to the tune of N2 billion.
The pension boss, as he is fondly called, slumped at about 10: 10 am, as his new counsel, Anayo Adibe, was still pleading with the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, for a little more adjournment to enable him get ready for the no case submission required of the defendant through his counsel.
Following the development, the court had to rise abruptly to see if Maina can quickly be revived. Thereafter, officials of the Correctional Services and relations of the former pension boss attend to him, even as he was still gasping for breath. Luckily, he was partially revived and taken to the hospital by officers of the Correctional Services for proper medical attention.
Maina was in court today, December 10, to make a no case submission, with the prosecution cross- examining him before a pronouncement will be made against him.
