Just in: Hon Farouk Lawan jailed 12 years over $500,000 bribe

Former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Farouk Lawan, has been convicted by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Apo, Abuja, for receiving $500,000 bribe from a businessman, Femi Otedola.

Justice Angela Otaluka convicted Lawan in Suit No FCT/HC/CR/76/2013, a three-count charge on which he was tried by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The judge sentenced him to seven years imprisonment in respect of counts one and two and five years on count three. The court further ordered that the $500,000 be returned to the Federal Government./SHARE THIS
