President Muhammadu Buhari has officially inaugurated the 157km double track Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge, in an event witnessed by crème-de-la-creme of Nigeria’s political and royal class.

The occasion which took place Thursday afternoon, was witnessed by eminent personalities, among whom are: Ministers of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, his Youths and Sports Development counterpart, Sunday Dare, Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, and her Health counterpart, Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora, and the Speaker, House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Others are the Chairman of Governors Forum and Governor of Ekiti State Dr Kayode Fayemi, his colleagues from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States; Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun and Seyi Makinde.

 

Royal fathers led by the representatives of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo were also present at the event.

 

Others are the wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and top government functionaries and eminent personalities among them Africa’s first Nobel Laureate Prof Woke Soyinka, captains of industries and members of the civil society.

It was Buhari’s first state visit to Lagos in six years and a major milestone project which linked the nation’s economic capital to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State and political capital of western Nigeria.

Addressing Nigerians at the event, the President expressed delight that the project initially greeted with pessimism, is, after all, being inaugurated in the life time of his administration as a commitment to making railway the backbone of transportation in the country, and further expressed commitment to the ongoing massive infrastructural development across the country./SHARE THIS
