Jigawa pays N27b five year pension arrears

Jigawa State Government through its State and Local Government Contributory Pension Board has paid over N27 billion to 7,051 retired state civil servants from May 2015 till- date, the Executive Secretary state Pension Board, Hon Hashim Fagam has stated.
With the recent development, he stated government does not owe a state pensioner.
Giving the breakdown, the state retired civil servants under review stood at 2,846 who were paid N13,892,098,000.82, while 1,618 retired local government staffs were paid N4,094,303,736.79k.
On retired local education authority, the scribe said their total number stood at seven thousand and fifty one and they were paid N11, 490,003,915.31.
Other payments included death benefit to 525 state retired civil servants and were paid N1,096,051,270.36. Four hundred and sixty one (461) retired local government staffs were paid N663,886,780.65 while the number of LEA retired staffs stood at 489 and they were paid N1,002,651,903.80.
Similarly, the board had also paid the sum of N840,270,920.19 to 393 retired civil servants of different cadres.
Under the breakdown 72 were retired state civil servants whom were paid N184,905,757.44; 51 were retired local government staffs who were paid N86,969,551.69 and LEA retired staffs of 198 who were paid N454,303,208.47.
Hon. Fagam attributed the success of the board to the state government positive support and cooperation at all times on its activities.
He assured the state’s retirees of efficient services in the discharge of the board’s operation at all times so as to ease the payment procedures of pension dues as at when due.
However, he warned pensioners and retirees to be wary of middle men who will cheat them in the process of their documentation, saying “we don’t engage the additional services of an outsider in our operations. All our transactions are done by our certified staffs who are competent enough to handle all matters related to pensioners.”
