The Statistician General of the Federation and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Dr Simon Harry, is dead. He died this morning, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in Abuja, after an undisclosed ailment.

Disclosing this in a press statement, NBS Director of Communication and Public Relatons, Mr. Sunday Ichedi, said: “The Board, Management and Staff of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announce,with deep sense of loss, the passing on of the Statistician General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NBS, Dr Simon Harry, in the early hours of today, Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, after a brief illness.

“Born on March 15,1965, in Lishin – Jangre of Plateau, he started his public service carreer in 1992 when he joined the then Federal Office of Statistics and rose through the ranks to become a director before his appointment as the Statistician General of the Federation on August 26, 2021.”

Dr Harry was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2021 to replace Dr Yemi Kale.

The late SGF was a member of many professional bodies in Nigeria and abroad.
