Gunmen Kill 19 in Kaduna villages

At least 19 people have been killed and several others injured in two separate attacks by unidentified gunmen in in Birnin Gwari and Kajuru local government areas of Kaduna State.
The attacks took place yesterday in the two villages.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna State commissioner for the internal security and home affairs, confirmed the two attacks in a statement today.
Said he: “On a sad note, the Kaduna State Government has received reports from security agencies of the killing of 19 citizens in Birnin Gwari and Kajuru local government areas of Kaduna central senatorial district.”
The commissioner said 14 people were killed by “armed bandits” at Kutemeshi village in Birnin Gwari and five others at Kujeni village in Kajuru. Several others were left with bullet wounds.
Also, the bandits looted some shops and carted away valuable items.

Aruwan said some of the injured have been moved to a neighboring state for urgent medical attention, while others are in transit to an orthopedic hospital in Kaduna.
According to him, Governor Nasir el-Rufai has been monitoring the security situation at the locations since yesterday morning and had expressed sadness over the attacks.

He has ordered the state emergency management agency to provide relief materials to the affected communities urgently.
