The brutal killing of Ahmad Gulak, Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, this morning, in Owerri, Imo State capital, has drawn the flak of the northern youths, who, a moment ago, vowed for reprisals, especially if  justice was not done to bring the killers to book.

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) consequently, issued a two-week ultimatum to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, to bring the killers to justice, without which the governor would be declared a persona non grata in the entire northern soil, apart from general reprisals that will follow.

The group urged the federal government to rise up to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, so as to avoid the current situation from escalating to a civil war.

Stressing this in a statement, moments ago, National President of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isah Abubakar, said, “It’s so pathetic and saddening, the continuous killing and lawlessness going on in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. The government of Imo State must give an account of those who killed Gulak.

“The continuous killing of Northerners and destruction of security facilities in Imo State will no longer be tolerated.”

The group urged the government to note that it would not allow the killers of Ahmad Gulak to go unpunished, stressing that the Imo State governor, who is the chief security officer, must bring those involved in the assassination to justice.

It said: “Let us state categorically that northern youths will do everything within their powers to force the government of Imo State to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. The Imo State Governor and other South East Governors should take note that we shall not accept the continued killing of Northerners and Northern elites in their region as we shall take revenge henceforth.”

Giving official account of the incident, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Gulak and two others on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight at about 07:20hours

According to him: “On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmad Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight.

“Ahmad Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the police or sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular.

“He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmad Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport.

“The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordon the area and arrest perpetrators.”/ SHARE THIS
