- Gov Shettima*
The developmental strides in Lagos is traceable to fairly successive good governments since 1979. Borno state is toeing that line with two successive good governors in Kashim Shettima and Babagana Umara Zulum. The new Governor who promised to consolidate on the legacies of his predecessor, said that his administration is going to implement and concentrate on a 10- plan blueprint in the next four years.
The cliché ‘the morning tells the day’ is apt in this sense as it has given a reassuring sign of what lies ahead in years to come. In just 100 days, Governor Zulum zooms ahead of the pack nationwide like a man on a mission. The 24 hours in a day seems inadequate for the new Borno helmsman to work .He’s therefore the first person in the office in the morning and the ‘policeman’ in the night, as medical doctors have discovered that the wee hours of the morning or dead hours of the night is no hindrance to his visit to their hospitals in order to ensure that every hand is on the deck.

In order to make Borno hospitals the envy of all, the governor has ordered for more doctors and nurses to be recruited in order to bring healthcare to the doorsteps of the people.’’ The government also built, renovated, rehabilitated 11 hospitals in the state, one of which is the determined expansion and upgrade of Biu Township General Hospital to a specialist category’’ said the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Usman Jida Shuwa
The Governor, a professor of Irrigation Engineering has vowed to utilise the abundant sophisticated agricultural implements and equipment his predecessor acquired in large quantity to boost food production across the state.”Our people will definitely return to farm to produce enough to eat and even sell to for their economic gains. We have all what it takes to produce food to address food scarcity occasioned by the attacks and threats of Boko Haram insurgents. Our farmers will have access to their farmlands to farm’’ Zulum said.
To this end , several government farm settlements has sprung up in Kaga(250 hectares),Ngala(350 hectares), Konduga(close to 1000 hectares in four areas of the town),Mafa,Biu,Askira,Gubio and Dambose,’’It’s a project designed to boost food adequacy in the state and the farmer’s personal economy’’the SSG revealled.
Borno state government has also embarked upon a massive rehabilitation of destroyed Umar ibn Ibrahim college of Education, Bama, State Technical and Vocational college also in Bama, construction of 7.5 kilometer intra-campus roads of Borno state University Maiduguri as well as construction of 35 mega schools( from foundation laying to completion) within the first 100 days.
The Secretary to the State Government further explained that education as a catalyst for development will receive a boost from where Zulum’s predecessor had stopped as without education, there would not be meaningful development and peace in the society .
To tackle the perennial problem of insecurity in the state, the Zulum administration has bought several patrol vehicles for the security outfits in the state.” We will work hand in hand with the military, police , civil defence, CJTF, hunters and other security forces to provide adequate security to our people at the rural and urban areas. The one decade of insurgency will be a thing of the past with the efforts of the government’’ the governor added
