Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to Governor Kashim Shettima, Mallam Isa Gusau, has reacted to the statement credited to Senator Abba Aji, alleging that the governor refused to heed security advice, hence the attack on his convoy while on its way to Gamboru Ngala for Campaign last week, Tuesday.

Recall that some armed terrorists attacked the governor’s convoy leading to the death of three persons including a soldier, with several others abducted or still missing around Logomani village.

Gusau said: “Senator Mohammed Abba Aji didn’t speak as a statesman. Rather, he spoke as a desperate political opponent of Governor Kashim Shettima for Borno Central senatorial election.

“The unfortunate Ngala incident he referred to, took place days back. The question is why did it take him that long to speak? Abba Aji is looking for justification for narrowing his campaigns to three out of eight local government areas and we all know it is because he knows he doesn’t stand the chance to win, so why waste his time! Governor Kashim Shettima was in Ngala in company with men drawn from all security agencies namely ,the Army, the DSS, the Police, Civil Defence and Civilian JTF.

“If there was a security advice, why will security agencies deploy their men to accompany the Governor? He is being typical of what is known of him.

“After that Ngala incident, which occurred within the constituency he aspires to represent, Senator Abba Aji didn’t have the courtesy to even commiserate with bereaved families of those that died yet he is trying to make political capital out of that unfortunate incident in clear disregard of decency and respect for families of the dead.

“That is the kind of man that wants to return to the Senate. The fact is that months ago, Abba Aji was assured by those who sponsored his aspiration that he was going to win the senatorial election, hence his sudden decision to defect from the APC to PDP, few months after joining the APC from PDP.

“However, those who assured him have now abandoned him on seeing he has no chance. He has seen the realities on ground and those realities point to the likelihood of him suffering a massive defeat and that’s why he has resorted to all kinds of insults, filing of petitions against dozens of people and fighting even his own party’s candidates and agents.

“We expect Abba Aji to say worse things and make worse accusations. None will surprise us because he is well known to be a grand mischief maker.”
