Gov. Masari shuts all boarding schools after abduction of about 400 students

Governor Aminu Masari has shut all boarding schools shut in Katsina State after bandits abducted some students of Kankara Government Science Secondary School, about 97km from the capital.
About half of the 800 students in the school are believed to have been abducted in the attack which happened around 9.30pm on Friday.
The governor gave the order when he visited the school in company with his Deputy, Mannir Yakubu, top government officials, some parents, traditional and religious leaders as well as security officials.
At the school, Masari pleaded with the people to be patient and show restraint and understanding, assuring them that the government would do every necessary thing to ensure the release of any abducted students.
According to him, the military, police and the Department of State Security had swung into action and were on the trail of the bandits.
β€œThe government is very firm in its resolve to be ruthless in any engagement with the bandits,” he said.
About 200 students who ran into the town for safety during the attack have reportedly returned to the school.
