Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court has sentenced Nollywood actor and comedian, Olanrewaju James, widely known as Baba Ijesha, to 16 years imprisonment over sexual assault of a minor.
Justice Taiwo gave the judgment on Thursday, saying that the jail term will run concurrently.
Baba Ijesha was convicted for sexually assaulting and misusing a 14-year-old daughter of his colleague, actress and comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, widely known by the stage name of Princess.
It would be recalled that personnel of the Nigeria Police had earlier on April 19, 2021, arrested Baba Ijesha for sexually assaulting the victim since she was seven, after which he was reported by Princess, and detained at the Sabo Police Station, and later transferred to the Gender Unit of the State CID, Panti, Yaba for thorough investigation.
The suspect who was captured on CCTV camera in the home of Princess, confessed to the crime, thus setting the pace for his judicial trial, few days after which he was arraigned before Justice Taiwo to face a six-count charge bordering on child defilement, indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, sexual assault by penetration and allied charges.
Having listened to the arguments of both the defence and prosecution, the judge concluded that there was no evidence before the court to prove that Baba Ijesha was tortured into giving incriminating statement against his own self as claimed, and then found him guilty as charged, sentencing him to 16 years imprisonment./SHARE THIS
