FG approves N3.93bn for completion of Ota Water Supply Scheme, Ogun State

The Federal Executive Council, at its meeting of 4th November, 2020, has approved the award of contract for the completion of the Ota Water Supply Scheme in Ogun State in favour of Messrs Naston Engineering Nig Ltd, in the sum of N3,937,494,634.83 inclusive of 7.5% VAT, with a completion period of 24 months.

With due consideration of the fact that Government is a continuum, it would be recalled that the council had earlier on  20th September, 2003, approved the expansion of Ota Water Supply Scheme in the sum of N2,336,245,911.11 to Messer Reynold Construction Company, but the execution of the project progressed slowly up to 32% before it was stalled due to paucity of funds.

Following the determination of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to ensure the completion of the project , the Ministry signed an MOU with the Ogun State Government on 31st July, 2018 and the activities were divided into two two phases: phase one to be executed by Federal Ministry of Water Resources while Phase two to be executed by the Ogun State Government.

Similarly, the Federal Executive Council also, at its meeting of 4th November,2020, also  gave approval to obtain loans of USD 104.2m from the African Development Bank and USD20million from African Growing Together Fund to finance Nigerian Urban Water Reform and Akure Water and  Sanitation Project. The project aims to provide sustainable access to safe drinking water for the residents of Akure City and its environ.
