Peasant farmers of Gwiwa local government area in Jigawa state have cried out of incessant fertilizer hoarding, hike in prices, and diversion by politicians and senior Agric officers.
Raising the dust while speaking to The State Online, the spokesman, Mal. Umar Adamu of Mori ward in Gwiwa LGA jigawa state complain about shortage, hike in price of the commodity, as well diversion by politicians and government officials.
“We the farmers of Gwiwa council, we would like to bring to the notice of our state Governor through your medium about our predicaments in the procurement, sales, and distributions of fertilizer”.
According to Mori, this ugly trend must be revisited and actions must be taken to contain the situation.
He lamented despite state government commitments towards making the availability of fertilizer at affordable prices to the down trodden masses, such efforts are being thwarted on daily routine by disgruntled elements of the middle men through their nefarious characters.
Contacted, the Jigawa state Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Kabiru Ali said they will investigate the matter assured government will deal with any officer involved in the dubious acts.
Also speaking, the Jigawa Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria ( AFAN) viewed the allegation as serious offence which calls for investigation and prosecution on any personality involved.
“I assure you we will intimate the government over the unwholesome attitudes with a view to curbing such anomalies”.
