Tragedy struck on Saturday, as an enraged policeman went off handle and gunned down an INEC official in a commercial bus conveying the staff and some youth corps members in Delta State after the elections.
Giving an account of the incident in Asaba, Delta State, Mr. Udoh Tom, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta, said “the commercial bus was shot at after the driver refused to stop at the police checkpoint, for fear of hijacking the election materials at a checkpoint in Ukwuani Local Government Area.
“Put succinctly, there was an attack in Ukwwani LGA where one of our staff was shot on his way with the election results after the election,” Tom volunteered.
He said the INEC official whose name was not yet given, died instantly, while the youth corps members sustain varying degrees of injury in the shooting incident and were currently receiving treatment./SHARE THIS
