The Benin office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been attacked by the rampaging protesters and seized hard drugs, especially marijuana, stacked in its warehouse looted.
The incident which occured Wednesday, October 21, eyewitnesses said, was suspected to be perpetrated by hoodlums who infiltrated the ranks of the peaceful #EndSARS protesters.
The event at NDLEA’s office on Sakponba Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, saw the hoodlums invading the office at about 6.30pm and overpowering personnel on duty before breaking into the warehouse. Although other types of hard drugs were in the store, sources said most of the drugs looted were carnabis, after which they set the office ablaze.
This was coming few days after a similar attack happened in Benin with raid on two correctional centres during which about 2,000 inmates were unlawfully freed.
The attack came amidst the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to curtail the activities of hoodlums desirous of seizing the #EndSARS peaceful protest in Edo State.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, within the week, stated that 12 suspects have, so far, been arrested in connection with the attacks and arson on police stations in Benin, with five AK47 rifles earlier stolen from vandalized police stations also being recovered.
The IGP has also advised parents/guardians to prevail on their children/wards to steer-clear of acts of violence and criminality as the Force will henceforth exercise the full powers of the law to prevent any further attempt on lives and property of citizens.
