Barely 24 hours after alumni and colleagues treated Professor Siyan Oyeweso, the new Pro-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, to a luncheon at the institution, another great alumnus of the citadel of learning, Emeritus Professor Toyin Falola FNAL, on Sunday August 11, held a splendid celebration for the new appointee in Osogbo.
Prof. Falola, like Oyeweso, studied History at Great Ife, as the University is often referred to.
At the event attended by many academics and friends, Professor Oyeweso recalled that Falola is his mentor and boss who has consistently given back to the Alma Mata in ways that cannot be quantified.
His words:
“As Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, I wish to leverage on Prof. Falola’s network and the hundreds of alumni of Ife spread across the world to contribute to the growth and development of our dear university.
“I am hopeful that under my leadership in collaboration with the Management, Staff and members of the university community, the Great Ife will become better than we met it.”
He thereafter thanked Prof. Falola for the honor and wished him and his wife a stress-free return to their base.
