The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned Parents, Guardians and Candidates in particular that ‘JAMB Score Upgrade’ is a scam and anyone found engaging in it will face the full wrath of the law.

“This has never existed and will never be condoned by the Board. Parents/Guardians and Candidates alike are to note that the so called “Score Upgrade” is simply a scam perpetrated by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting and gullible candidates, their parents or their guardians as the case may be,” ACTU said in a statement contained in the April 13, 2020 edition of JAMBulletin made available to The State Online by JAMB Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

“Therefore, any Parent/Guardian/Candidate that gets himself/herself involved in such a fraudulent act is doing so at his/her own peril and should be ready to face the full wrath of the Law when caught,” the statement added.

In another development, JAMB disclosed that it has taken full advantage of technology, particularly as related to the institution of a ticketing platform, to address candidates’ enquiries during this period of lockdown as over four thousand cases have been adequately resolved without any physical contact between staff and candidates.

JAMBulletin said “The introduction of the ticketing system in 2018 was to address the challenge of candidates crowding the Board’s offices, engender transparency by way of tracking complaints, provide conducive atmosphere for candidates seeking corrections or amendments of data and, above all, ensure that genuine and necessary feedback are easily obtained from candidates for planning.

“The introduction of the ticketing system in 2018 was to address the challenge of candidates crowding the Board’s offices, engender transparency by way of tracking complaints, provide conducive atmosphere for candidates seeking corrections or amendments of data and, above all, ensure that genuine and necessary feedback are easily obtained from candidates for planning.

“Before the ticketing regime, candidates thronged the offices of the Board for almost all complaints while some send letters which might not get to the Board. However, with the ticketing regime, all a complainant or enquirer needs do is to visit support.jamb.gov.ng to state his/her complaints and a number would be assigned to him/her for ease of tracking of the complaint in case the complaint is not address at all or addressed satisfactorily. This is, however, a rare occurrence as all tickets are subjected to further scrutiny by higher authorities.

“Furthermore, this platform aids safety of parties concerned as it conforms to the social distancing protocols even before it was globally embraced. It creates transparency and provides the Board the opportunity to track not only the official that resolved the complaint but also the time taken to do so.

“It is highly gratifying to note that within the few days of the lockdown, over four thousand cases have been successfully resolved with each being resolved within 24 hours of receipt of such complaint or enquiry. This is because the staff of the Board are working from home to address all the needs of candidates as and when due. Some of the complaints/enquiries received through the ticketing platform ranged from those asking as to when candidates are to start printing their original results slips to steps for changing programmes and institutions, among others.

“Perhaps it would be expedient to state that the facility for change of programmes or institutions has been activated while results are ready for printing but these processes have been put on hold because the Presidential Directive mandating citizens to stay at home is still in force.

“As soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is over, the printing of result would be enabled. The Board equally supports the Hon. Minister of Education’s directive on online learning aimed at ensuring the continuity of the learning curve. As such, the Board is doing all within its mandate to give full force to the directive. Candidates are urged to visit the Board’s website for all processes that do not require biometric verification. In this regard, they are enjoined to wait for the lifting of the restrictions on movement and social interactions to undertake those processes requiring biometric verification.

“ In addition, the Board has noted that some candidates have been offered admissions but are yet to accept or reject such offers. Consequently, candidates are advised to download the CAPS Mobile App on Android Playstores, Apple Store, among others, to check their admissions status and do the needful. As regards those candidates who had been offered admissions and had accepted, they can visit the institution for online registration and wait for further directives.”
